Eating Jewishly involves tradition, family upbringing and origin, health and social influences. We will use texts to guide our discussion and provide context for how these factors have evolved our experience of what “eating Jewishly” means. This 3-part series will explore and explain the “tradition” in the widest sense.

Mitzvah (commandedness) is one of the most important principles of Judaism while autonomy is the indispensable grounding idea of modern ethics. We live in a radically democratized world: We are all our own masters, our own publishers, our own producers, our own teachers, for some, our own bosses.

Given the centrality of the idea of commandedness and community in Judaism and given the radical democratization of society - what does Judaism look like in the 21st century for modern Jews?

Grandparenting has changed over the years. And now we have proof! The Jewish Grandparents Network has just released the results of a national study of Jewish grandparents. IJKL is proud to welcome the organization’s CEO, David Raphael to our Zoom Classroom on Wednesday, June 17. Mr. Raphael will share findings from the study that can help guide us all toward a better understanding of the relationship between grandparents, their children, and grandchildren. What did the survey say? You’ll have to join us to find out.
